Autumn 1
Maths
This term, Year 3, will be building on their Year 2 knowledge with adding and subtracting across10 and will then move on to place value of numbers up to 1,000. This includes counting in multiples of 2, 20, 5, 50, 25 and 100.
English
Mini Rabbit Not Lost by John Bond will be the focus for our Narrative writing to begin the school year. The children will develop their knowledge of descriptive language, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions, powerful verbs and punctuation marks such as full stops, exclamation marks and question marks. They will create their own narrative considering the audience and the impact their word choices and sentence structures have on the reader. Later in the term, the children will focus on poetry.
Reading
Using a variety of age appropriate texts, the children will develop their vocabulary knowledge and develop their oracy and fluency through activities such as echo reading, paired reading and discussions of the text. They will also develop key reading skills such as retrieval and inference.
Science
Science this term is Movement and Nutrition. This includes learning about skeletons including humans, muscles, food groups and a healthy diet.
